Children Separated by War Family Tracing and Reunification

The separation of children from their families is one of the major humanitarian disasters caused by war. This problem does not only involve the identification and tracing of children who have become separated from their families, but also long-term social policy issues relating to fostering, substitute family care and other alternatives.;This book includes: case studies of tracing and reunification programmes in Rwanda and the Great Lakes, Angola, and Liberia; analyses of problems and dilemmas in policy and practice; an overview of the mandates and policies of all the participating agencies and national governments; and an agreed statement of inter-agency organizational practice issues with separated children.;The report is a result of a meeting which aimed to promote collaboration between governments, international agencies and non-governmental agencies which are involved in family tracing and reunification: ICRC, UNHCR, Unicef and the international Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, together with representatives of the governments of Angola, Mozambique and Uganda.
