This work, in three volumes, brings together a comprehensive view of chess history mostly from writings in Arabic and Hebrew. It includes translations and commentaries, illustrations, reproductions from manuscripts, pictures of chess pieces and early chess problems.;Volume three, "Chess among the Jews" translates the works of Moritz Steinschneider written as part of the book "Geschichte und Litteratur des Schachspiels" by Antonius van der Linde (Berlin 1874). It takes up the research done by Thomas Hyde and delves into the texts his work was based upon. It illustrates how chess was disseminated by Jewish culture, and prints some poems in the original Hebrew.
