Publisher's Synopsis
Six review articles provide an in-depth sampling of the rapidly expanding effort to apply laser and optical methods to the study of interfacial processes. The articles stem from a symposium entitled ''Photoprocesses at Solid Surfaces'' held in 1983 at the spring meeting of the American Chemical Society. In most cases, efforts through mid-1985 are included.;The techniques described are applicable to the investigation of surface processes in high pressure and condensed phase environments. Materials studied include many of great technological importance, such as catalysts, electronic materials, lubricants, surfactants, and biological cells and membranes. Although each chapter provides an overview of the techniques employed, the emphasis is on what is learned about bonding and chemistry at interfaces.
