Publisher's Synopsis

Staphylococci with many weapons contributing to disease pathogenesis are difficult to treat because of the restricted spectrum of antimicrobials of proven efficacy. They have become one of the most aggressive organisms infecting mankind because of their virulence factors and various mechanisms of drug resistance .This could result in serious clinical and public health consequences. In view of this and consequent implications for mortality and morbidity, it is important to control the spread of resistant strains. The aim of this study was to discuss currently available techniques for detection of pathogenic staphylococci, their utility in discrimination of strains and their role in clinical applications. This could aid the epidemiologists, researchers and infection control professionals to understand the epidemiology of staphylococci especially the resistant strains and implement the infection control measure to curtail spread of infections caused by these organisms In this study, alternative extracts for tackling drug resistance was researched which would help in coming up with more effective therapeutic agents for successful control of life threatening staphylococcal infections
