Publisher's Synopsis
A unique comparative view of the land between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea from the second to the final decades of the twentieth century. About seventy aerial photographs taken by German, British and Australian aviators during WWI from the book's core. Various localities appear here as they looked in 1917-18, after 40 years of Turkish rule and before the onset of large-scale modernization. These are accompanied by text written by people of various nationalities who were fighting or living in the country. The aerial photographs enable the reader to observe the major types of physical change within the country.
