Publisher's Synopsis
This is a catalogue of a joint exhibition from the collections of the Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum held at the PDF from 8th September 1994 to 7th February 1995.;The evolution of Chinese ceramic production in the 16th century is characterized by both traditional designs from the 15th century and by a bolder experimentation and expansion in wares not normally associated with the Court. The line between imperial wares and non-imperial wares became increasingly blurred in this century, and indeed it was during the reign of Wanli that the Imperial Factory ceased production.;The period examined in this book encompasses the reigns of Hongzhi (1488-15050, Zhengde (1506-21), Jiajing (1522-66), Longqing (1567-72) and ends with Wanli (1573-1620).
