Publisher's Synopsis
This volume provides presentations on many aspects of "reperfusion injury". Every vital organ undergoing ischaemic insult, transplantation or vascular surgery, is subject to reperfusion and thus to the likelihood of injury. This text describes the mechanisms of such injury, from pathophysiology to molecular aspects, in the brain, heart, lung, liver, kidney, intestines and joints. It also discusses the possible direction of future research in this relatively new area.;The papers which constitute this work were originally presented at a conference held by the New York Academy of Sciences on July 11-14, 1993, in New York.
