Publisher's Synopsis
Celestial Jack tells the story of the Angels and Demons that are trading celestial life shares on the Eternal Exchange that is the center of the Universe. The plot centers on Jack Smith, who is raised in a mysterious Abbacy off the east coast of England and who goes on to become the head of an investment department of the Global Bank, which is run from the shadows by an all-powerful but nameless organization that controls the terrestrial economy and serves the celestial life market. Left in a coma after a hit and run car accident, Jack Smith's life hangs in the balance. A boy beckons his spirit to follow him and conducts him through the celestial realm, where he is initiated into the secrets of celestial trading. Here he has to gain his existence back by trading his life balance over the course of a twenty-four-hour trading session. He is made to invest the balance of his remaining life in the celestial accounts of a fixed number of mortals dwelling in the terrestrial sphere: his friends and his enemies, including the man who tried to kill him, and also the head of the nameless organization himself. If at the end of the session he makes a profit, then he will be able to return to the terrestrial sphere, but if not, then his spirit will have to work on the celestial trading sphere forevermore.
