Our object has been to give some of the principal events and characteristics of the work of the Church, and of a number of its members of the century just past. A history of the Church and its members is beyond the object sought to be obtained.
Looking over the life and work of a congregation of which one has been a member and has knowledge for half a century is interesting and inspiring, but to go back a century, to its origin, and study its history from its own records, yellow with age and faded ink, and see the labors and faith of the early settlers of a new country, with its conglomeration of inhabit ants of various creeds, and no creeds at all, with surrounding infidelity and wickedness, and yet stand on the solid spiritual Rock, as to-day, gives loftier inspiration and greater zeal and courage, and should urge us on to greater achievements.
