Dieu, qui voulait cette noble fin, avait donné à l'homme tous les moyens d'y parvenir. L'homme devait les mettre en usage, faire ce que Dieu lui commandait, s'abstenir de ce qu'il lui défendait. A cette condition, le bonheur lui était assuré, pour lui et pour tous ses descen dants. Ces admirables rapports, ou, si vous voulez, cette société entre Dieu et l' homme innocent c' est la Religion. Comme on voit, cette Religion, ou cette société, qui devait conduire l'homme à un bonheur auquel il n'avait par lui-mème aucun droit de prétendre, est une grande faveur, une grande aumône, une grande grace de la part de Dieu.
