Excerpt from Catalogue of the Officers and Students of Davidson College: For the Forty-Sixth Collegiate Year, Ending June 21, 1883
Davidson college is in Mecklenburg County, North Caro lina, on the Atlantic, Tennessee and Ohio Railroad, twenty-two miles north of Charlotte, and twenty-two miles south of States? Ville. The site of the College and the adjacent village is remark ably healthy, being free from malaria and other causes of sickness. Few places are so free from temptations to vice and extravagance. The situation of the College is remote from towns and large vil lages. By a law of the State, no intoxicating liquors are allowed to be sold within three miles of the place.
The College was founded in 1837, and has continued in opera tion, without any suspension, since it was first opened. All the Presbyteries in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida are represented in its Board of Trustees.
