Publisher's Synopsis
After 25 years of teaching at the Trier Theological Faculty, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Schneider, Chair of Medieval and Modern Church History, has been appointed emeritus professor. During his academic career, the emeritus professor served on various committees and historical associations. Immediately after completing his habilitation process, he was appointed a member of the Episcopal Commission of Inquiry into the "Marian Apparitions" in Marpingen. In his role as deputy chairman of the Hieronymus Jaegen Association, he devoted himself extensively to the person and the associated beatification process. He also contributed to the discourse on church history as a member of the Academic Advisory Board "Catholica: Sources and Studies on the Literary and Cultural History of Modern Catholicism" and in the international research group "Dynamics of Religious Reform" (17801920). In addition, the emeritus was active not only as a member but also as chairman of the Friedrich Spee Society in Trier and the Society for Middle Rhine Church History most recently in the role of president. Friends and associates took the opportunity of his retirement to bid him a fitting farewell with a commemorative publication. The topics of the individual contributions are based on the honoree's research interests, which focused intensively on the history of dioceses, piety, literature, and the history of charity.
