Publisher's Synopsis
The subject of this book is the examination of inter-relationships between caring for student nurses and caring for patients. Caring behaviours are examined in the context of student-centred teaching and learning and patient-centred nursing care. - - A number of interesting findings are given in the book. There are, for example, high agreement scores in respect to a student-centred attitude survey. The nurse teacher data generally demonstrates agreement to the espoused theory surrounding student-centred teaching and learning. However, for a variety of reasons it is shown that the espoused theory is not thought to be always translated into teaching practices. Some of the findings of the student nurse data analysis are shown to conflict with the nurse teacher data. Nevertheless, it is shown that the students studied generally high indicators of self-esteem and patient-centred attitude scores. - - Individualism, humanism, care and empowerment are identified as key concepts in caring for students and care for patients.
