Publisher's Synopsis
This volume aims to explain the treatment of cardiovascular hypertrophy and remodelling to the non-specialist, and describe how they affect the outcome of hypertension, and how they are best treated.;Cardiovascular hypertrohpy and remodelling are two of the main pathological consequences of hypertension. The effects of high blood pressure on the circulation seem to vary: in the heart and in large- and medium-sized arteries there is medial hypertrophy, whereas in the small arteries there is remodelling, which appears to be different from a growth response.;Treatment with ACE inhibitors appears to reverse cardiovascular remodelling, as well as reduce blood pressure and, therefore, might protect the individual against end-organ damage.
