Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Candid View of the Presidential Question
Political zealots will answer this question at once, by a reference to the decision of some party tribunal: but the candid and re?ecting will find it necessary to consider many things before they decide. I am merely a citizen, pledged to the dogmas of no partisan leader, with no thing to hope from either candidate, and nothing to fear, except in com mon with the other good people of the country. I am interested in the perpetuation of our free institutions, for I have children; I am anxious that our government should give repose at home, and protection abroad to all who support it, for I am an American by birth and in principle; and Iam zealous for its honour: it is the part of my patrimony, which I am most unwilling to squander.
