Damian isn't an asshole, even though he knows how things look. He doesn't hate Lydia because she has cancer; he hates her and she happens to have cancer. Think about it: if terminal illness was taken out of the picture, would Damian still be the villain? Whenever he sees her, he's taken over by this blind rage that renders him incapable of doing...well...anything. He read an article online that suggested writing down his feelings, so he decided to take them to Tumblr, where he could let out all of the bad thoughts he had about the girl in school that's dying. The thing is that the internet isn't anonymous, even if you don't attach your name to something.
When Lydia finds his blog, he's convinced that his life is over. Then she offers him a chance to save his reputation: if he gets into a relationship with her, she won't post the screenshots to her 5,312 Instagram followers. On the surface, it seems like an easy decision (not to mention he might even get laid). But how do you pretend to be in love with the one person in the world that brings out the worst in you?
