The Society of Jack-O'-Lanterns is old, secret, and powerful. Their stated goal is to take women and men who have been abused and downtrodden and raise them up by giving them cash and power in exchange for a time of limited servitude to the upper echelon of members. However, while the "what" of the Society is clear, the "how" is much murkier, and that leads to significant tension in the inner council. That's where Calypso Fernandez, a vengeance assassin, is brought in by one of the council members. Calypso has a stated goal - bring pleasure to her victim for weeks, then kill him. Such is the life of a vengeance assassin. Calypso is quite good at it and doesn't see her assigned target as being a problem. Until she falls in love with him. What is more powerful, love or vengeance? Calypso must answer this question . . . assuming she can live long enough to find the answer.
