After two years of fishing and encountering dangers in the Royal Navy, Willem Verbaan is trained for submarine duty. Not long after his mobilization, war breaks out and he disappears from the view of Scheveningen. He comes back six years later as a merchant ship captain, only to face perils he has never faced before. Willem Verbaan was born in Scheveningen in a fishing family. He had seven siblings of which he was the youngest. He can dance with ease and with pleasure by the time he was in elementary school and he made his name through the largest state-funded yacht club, the Royal Navy. He has taken some time to study merchant shipping late in his career.
