Je dois à D. José Maria de Bernaola, membre de la Société de Correspondance hispanique, en résidence à Durango, de pou voir présenter aux lecteurs du Bulletin un des plus vénérables monuments de l'ibérie, le très antique animal de pierre que la tradition locale appelle l'idole de Miqueldi. La planchel est exécutée d'après la seule photographie qui existe, à ma connaissance de cette sculpture, et que D. José Maria a bien voulu me preter. Non moins précieuses sont les notes qu'il m'a envoyées, et que je me fais un plaisir de transcrire.
