Buildings of the Land Scotland's Farms 1750-2000

The story of the changing countryside of Scotland can be traced through its buildings. All the successive phases of agricultural development - from the 18th century revolution of 'Improvement' to the factory farming of the 20th century - are recorded in stone, concrete and steel. This book, the result of a long-term research project undertaken by RCAHMS and the National Museums of Scotland, records farm buildings across the many regions of Scotland. The result is a volume richly illustrated with drawings and photographs covering a wide variety of building types, and tracing their evolution against the development of modern Scottish agriculture over the past 300 years.
