Established on October 1, 2011, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), is charged with managing the Nation's offshore resources in a balanced way that promotes efficient and environmentally responsible energy and mineral development through oil and gas leasing, renewable energy development, marine mineral leasing and a commitment to rigorous, science- based environmental review and study. BOEM plays an important role in advancing President Obama's all-of-the-above approach to expanding responsible development of domestic energy resources as part of a broad effort to secure the nation's energy future, benefit the economy, and create jobs.
