We are what we remember. Our memories are downloaded from our hard drive. The boxes appear early in life. They hold our conscious memories. Some like others' boxes, but what's in ours are unique to us. They hold our hope and fears. Our likes and dislikes. Our biases and our sentiments. Our interpretations of events and laws. Our preferences toward social movements. Our fantasies and realities.Our self image and our view of others. Freud guessed this about us years ago. We have id impulses that rule our egos. We and identity these, and deal with them. Or choose not to. What follows are my boxes. These are not about the good days of my life; not nostalgia. They are set in historical contexts of family, communities, politics, social movements, civil rights, religion, literary pursuits, and advancing age. The are accounts in my experience that help me relive them as if it were only yesterday. I begin with how I started with my childhood box in rural Tennessee.
