A revised and augmented critical edition of Rashi's commentary based on the best medieval manuscripts; R. Tam's commentary edited anew from Oxford and Rostock manuscripts; a commentary by a disciple of Rashi edited for the first time from a Guenzburg manuscript. With source notes, variants and comments, scholarly comprehensive introductions for each commentary (90 pages) and indices, with a separate introduction in English. The text of Rashi's commentary is based on MS Vienna 24, which was chosen after all available manuscripts were examined. Important variants from other manuscripts are also provided. The text as printed in this volume is far superior and more accurate than any other printed edition. The commentary by a disciple of Rashi has never been published previously. Quotations and excerpts from it can be found in other commentaries in various manuscripts.
