Publisher's Synopsis
These are the proceedings of the third international workshop on industrial polysaccharides held at the Area de Ricerca di Trieste, Italy in October 1988. The focus is on biomedical and biotechnological advances. Biotechnology is currently being exploited in the design and tailoring of new high added-value polysaccharides and oligosaccharides. In addition, there has been an explosion of interest in basic and applied research into the biomedical properties of polysaccharides in areas such as vaccines, drug development and drug release. This volume presents the views of scientists and engineers from academia, government and industry on these major issues.
