Biomedical Technologies and their –Omics Applications is an accessible, student–friendly introduction to the current and leading edge technological approaches used in biomedical research. Particular emphasis is placed in technologies underpinning ‘omic’ sciences, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and pharmacogenomics. The importance of bioinformatics in facilitating the integration of complex DNA, RNA and protein datasets is also highlighted. The book focuses on the most important technical innovations that have revolutionized our ability to study physiological and pathophysiological processes, as well as explore the molecular basis of drug activity. In particular the following technologies are considered; high throughput DNA sequencing, differential gene expression analysis tools, proteomic systems, tissue microarrays, cell–based microarrays, along with high throughput mutation detection systems.  Opening with an introduction to the basic concepts relating to genes and their function, the book then moves on to tackle the main technological spheres from genomics to proteomics and beyond. The book is richly illustrated throughout and includes numerous case studies to enhance student understanding.
