Publisher's Synopsis
Frozen River is the first feature length novel from the renowned essayist Yu Qiuyu. This love story in the vein of classic symbolism infuses Yu's philosophy of life into a story with ordinary people as protagonists. The river connects a village with the Capital where a major exam is to take place. After years of failing the exam, a scholar is making his last ditch effort. On the way to the Capital, part of the river froze. Now his fate hinges on whether anyone on his boat would pitch in to break the ice.
