Data is fact which can be recorded and when it is used in some context then it is known as
information. In computer word data is transmissible and storable information which can
be collected and analyzed. Generally, we refer it in tabular form represented in row and
column. Significant of data was always there even before the invention of computer in the
form of counting, trades, calendars, astrology, taxes etc. When acquired data is sorted,
organized and interpreted then it becomes the information.Prof. Shifra Baruchson, a well
knowns academician of Bar Ilan University located in Israel considers the data as sensory
stimuli which is recognized by our senses. He defines Information as refined form of Data
which has some meaning for receiver. Knowledge is for him is understanding and
interpretation of knower.
In last three decades, we have seen the explosion in the data volume and experienced a
high velocity and variety in data being generated. Emerging technologies and inventions
in Information Technology (IT) have worked as a fuel for data acquisitions engines for
collecting, refining and using this massive data as asset. Internet is a game changing
revolution in IT and it has produced many new sources of the data. With the emergence
of Internet and use of IT in every sector of society, Data management become the critical
need to retain and analyze the personal or organizational data.
