Sir, --Relying on your favour and friendship for the English nation, we take the liberty of addressing this letter to you and intreat the honour of your aid and assistance in our present situation. We hope by your means to be informed in what manner we may address the Nabob for his permission to reestablish our Settlement at Calcutta. To whom can we apply in our present circumstances but to those from whom we have received many marks of favour and protection and on whom we still depend.
