Publisher's Synopsis
This volume of the "Low German Studies" series, which focuses on linguistics and cultural studies, is dedicated to the historical word formation of Low German - with a focus on Middle Low German - in order to stimulate the scientific discussion on this topic. Explicit derivation, the formation of the adverb, collective formations, the word formation pattern ‑(er)îe, particle verbs, fugue elements and the change in word formation in the context of the change in writing language from Low German to High German are discussed. The contributions make a fundamental contribution to supplementing the discussion about the formation and change of word formation patterns with the Low German perspective. The contributions are based on lectures given at the Kungliga Vetenskapssamhället i Uppsala and the Commission for Dialect and Name Research of Westphalia from 28-30. June 2018 workshop "Historical word formation of Low German" held in Uppsala.
