Publisher's Synopsis
This workbook, Being Black in America Schools: The Professional Guidebook K-12 Education Edition is a companion piece to the book, Being Black in America's Schools, and flows from a commitment to high-quality adult learning and professional development. The workbook will summarize the key themes in Being Black in America's Schools for all educators, while providing critical questions, rubrics, and action steps to help support educators in dismantling the inequitable designs prevalent within our schools. The tools in the workbook are meant to add to the rigor in your classrooms not to diminish it. High expectations, rigor, and teaching strong critical thinking skills in your students is most crucial in driving equity in your classrooms.
The workbook is broken into six sections: 1) early childhood education, 2) primary education, 3) secondary education, 4) education pedagogy, 5) liberatory systems, structures & policies, and a bonus section for 6) post-secondary considerations to inform your practice. Each section outlines clear focal points, crucial themes, key questions, and a self-assessing rubric to help improve your practice for students. We hope that all educators find this guide as a resource to better transform your schools and classrooms to ensure that each child can leave your educational environment empowered and inspired to discover their phenomenal light within.
