Publisher's Synopsis
The peasant comedy text type and the fictional literary conversations it contains are among the most important sources that allow conclusions to be drawn about the historically spoken language of the 17th century. The articles in this anthology of the linguistic and cultural studies series "Low German Studies" deal with the linguistic and literary-historical potential of peasant comedies from different perspectives. Their staged dialogicity enables analyzes of the types and course of conversations, of certain linguistic actions and other language-pragmatic, but also sociolinguistic and grammatical features that are characteristic of interactional speaking. What is special about the peasant comedies of the 17th century are the often rough and drastic dialogues with curses, insults or accusations - linguistic activities that are hardly passed on in other sources.
