This videotape and monograph program provides an introduction to the important role of the histotechnologist in the accurate diagnosis of disease. It focuses on the roles of the clinician, pathologist, and histotechnologist functioning as a team to provide quality patient care. Major areas of responsibility covered include proper handling, labeling, and tracking of tissue specimens; chemical processing of tissues; "embedding" tissues in molds of melted wax to produce paraffin blocks containing the tissues; "sectioning" specimens from the paraffin block into slices; performing quality assurance; and technical maintenance of the equipment.
