The Petrotechnical Open Software Corporation ((POSC) is a not-for-profit membership company dedicated to the provision of a software integration platform for the upstream exploration and production (E&P) industry. This is part of the POSC Software Integration Platform specification series. It specifies the base standards on which other documentation in the series is founded and is designed as a procurement guide for acquiring computing systems based on these standards. The guide defines an open systems architecture which provides portability, interoperability, and scalability of software across multiple computing platforms, and in particular, provides specifications based on existing standards which enable the development of multi-disciplinary E&P applications across multi-vendor platforms.;This work is intended for developers of software applications who wish to comply with Petrotechnical Open Software Corporation requirements; for vendors and suppliers of systems, sofware and hardware to the E&P industry; and as a guide for consumers and others with an interest in E&P applications.
