Awake, Awake, Deborah! is about a woman coming of age at the beginning of the tumultuous Iron Age in the land of Israel. There are ongoing conflicts between the Israelites and Canaanites over land and resources. Deborah's childhood abruptly ends with the devastating raid by the cruel Sisera, leader of the Sea People, who are aligned with the Canaanites. As witness to rape, kidnapping, murder and loss in this raw and violent moment, Devash transforms into Deborah, to help save her people, and herself - forging an unusual marriage, and an alliance with an attractive warrior, as she rises to lead her people in a climactic fight.
