Publisher's Synopsis
A consideration and assessment of the science of automated peritoneal dialysis (APD). It is divided into four sections. The first is devoted to membrane permeability, transport mechanisms and kinetic modelling applied to APD. The second section covers topics which until now have not been assessed in depth, such as prescription and adequacy of different APD treatment schedules. The third section is dedicated to dialysis machines and solutions for APD, and the last section deals with different clinical aspects such as the possibility to maintain a PD programme and residual renal function. Two chapters, in the second and third sections, refer to paediatric patients.
