Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Autobiography and Miscellanea
My father's funeral is distinctly remembered. The funeral service was conducted in the old unpainted meeting-house, which stood on the other side of the Androscoggin directly opposite our home. The scene, however, made but little im pression on my unreasoning years. It is to me a cause of thankfulness that even a few glimpses of my father are among the treasures of memory. I sometimes try to imagine what his in?uence upon me would have been, had he not been so early cut off.
