Publisher's Synopsis
This book is based upon research carried out by experts of the 12 EEC countries, all members of the network Women in Employment of the Equal Opportunities Unit of the DGV of the European Commission. The survey looks at the problem of atypical employment in the EC and in doing so concentrates particularly on women's position in the field. - - ?Atypical employment? incorporates all forms of employment diverging from the legal norm of the full-time open ended contract. The reasons for this divergence are as diverse as the number of hours worked, when and how they are worked, the organization and location of production, wage formation and legal and contractual status. Each form of employment is dealt with in the same manner, firstly with a quantitative analysis which reflects the size and development of the phenomenon (1980-1990) and secondly with a qualitative description of its characteristics as seen from an individual, a micro-economic and a macro-economic point of view.
