Publisher's Synopsis
Amino acid side-chain packing arrangements are of major concern to many scientists interested in modelling protein interactions. Despite their important role in protein structure and function, no guide yet exists which describes and analyzes the different packing geometries. These two volumes provide a reference to the 400 possible types of amino acid side-chain interactions observed in proteins of known three-dimensional structure.;Each type of interaction has been statistically analyzed to provide data relating to its favourability and stability. The data is presented both statistically as histograms and in the form of stereo plots, providing a source of information on the nature of the forces which hold proteins together.
