Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Assaying and Metallurgical Analysis: For the Use of Students, Chemists, and Assayers
The directions for work and the descriptions of processes have been made as concise as possible, to reduce the size of the book but by the inclusion of the chemical reactions of the metals it has been sought to make the reasons for the procedure clear, and where it was thought necessary, chemical explanations have been given at greater length. Care has been taken to make the methods of calculation clear, using for the most part the approximations of the atomic weights commonly employed. In a few instances directions are given for conducting experiments to ascertain the kind of treatment suitable for a given ore, and the examination of work's products and solutions has also been described. Part I. Is devoted to laboratory appliances and general processes, useful hints rather than full descriptions being given.
