Nearly a year ago you and your fellow-deputies gave solemn judgment in the Illinois case. Your per sonal support was given to that judgment, and in so doing you performed a great duty to the Church, or else you did a great wrong. Since that time you have never ceased to hear the accusation of injustice. The Church has been flooded with complaints, and the sympathies of the external public have been invoked. The aggrieved party has had this field to itself. Nobody has replied. In calm dignity or well-restrained disgust, the friends of order and discipline have found their strength in the quietness and confidence which can afford to sit still.
