Publisher's Synopsis

Thomas W. Case is in your face and pulling no punches with his second collection of poetry: Artichokes, Avocados, and Van Gogh. There's a gritty, seedier side of life that most people can somehow relate to but choose not to explore; the author puts it out there with blunt force. Themes such as grief, loss, love, relationships, and homelessness, all fueled by alcoholic adventures, are presented in a Bukowski-esque fashion. You'll laugh, but you may also shudder. Yet you can't help cheering him on as he strongly hints at a sense of desperation, a perpetual longing to escape the chaos. Thomas W. Case was born in Oxnard, California. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and currently resides in Iowa City where he continues to write poetry and short stories. Previous publications include, The Bullfrog Dreams of Flying (2005) and five poems in Lyrical Iowa between 2004 and 2013. He was published twice in Poetry in Public Project Iowa City, and is the winner of several spoken word competitions.
