Publisher's Synopsis
Much research effort is underway in the year 2000 to improve and implement the area-wide control of insect pests, in order to minimise the use of pesticides and protect the environment. This volume is an outcome of two major international meetings, the FAO/IAEA International Conference on Area-Wide Control of Insect Pests, and the Fifth International Symposium on Fruit Flies of Economic Importance, both held in June 1998 in Penang. More than 300 pages were presented, but this volume includes the 91 considered the most valuable by an international review panel. Papers have been edited, revised and updated as necessary. This volume should be of interest to workers in agriculture, medical and veterinary entomology.
