Numerical methods are designed for the constructive solution of mathematical problems requiring particular numerical results, usually on a computer. A numerical method is a complete and unambiguous set of procedures for the solution of a problem, together with computable error estimates. The text Applied Numerical Methods for Engineers focuses on numerical methods for all engineering disciplines. First chapter focuses on 3D numerical modelling of mold filling of a coat hanger distributer and rectangular cavity. Experimentally validated numerical modeling of heat transfer in granular flow in rotating vessels has been presented in second chapter. Third chapter presents the results of numerical simulation of the flow around a hemisphere at both the symmetric and asymmetric energy supply into the flow, when the energy supply is realized at 900 angle to the velocity vector of the incoming supersonic airflow. The goal of fourth chapter is to present problems of theoretical work leading to the development of a methodology of very high temperature testing of steel samples while their central parts are still mushy. Fifth chapter outlines a new design scheme for acoustic sensor optimization that combines numerical simulation using the COMSOL multiphysics software and design of experiments (DOE) approach to optimize the acoustic sensor of the proposed design to obtain the acoustic resonator. Efficient numerical methods for solving differential algebraic equations have been discussed in sixth chapter. Seventh chapter focuses on numerical methods for solving turbulent flows by using parallel technologies. In eighth chapter, we resolve Terzaghi partial differential equations using Fourier method and finite difference respectively for analytical and numerical solutions. In ninth chapter, an improved phase change problem has been introduced to involve rapid melting and crystallization which is typical for laser-powder cladding (LC) technology. In tenth chapter, we present an eoretical study of the smoothing, convergence and error reduction properties of the multigrid method for a time dependent convection diffusion equation. The objective of eleventh chapter is to establish solutions, by analytical and numerical method, of the equation of the pore water pressure. The purpose of last chapter is to determine the bench slope angle and overall slope of the west wall in Chadormalu mine in points susceptible to rupture.
