Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Annual Reports of the Town Officers of the Town of Andover, New Hampshire, for the Fiscal Year Ended December 31, 1951: And the Report of the School Board
Stock in trade assessments, always one of the most difficult items for selectmen to handle, were set by an expert of the tax commission, and scaled down by us to the same relative value applied to other classes of property. The net result was a_ 70 per cent increase in stock; in trade inventory.
The effect of the general raise in assessed valuations was greatly misunderstood. Very few individual tax bills were any larger than they would have been under the old valu ation and a higher tax rate, but many were the complaints received by the selectmen and tax collector from persons who seemed to feel that their particular property had been singled out for a tax increase.
