Excerpt from Annual Report of the Town of Andover, N. H., 1948: Including Precincts
The financial position of the Town of Andover is little changed since our report one year ago. As predicted then, the 1948 tax rate increased to to cover the larger appropriations made by you at the 1948 town and school meetings. This extra tax money was sufficient to meet added town demands, and with all 1948 bills paid a balance of remained to increase the net surplus of assets over liabilities.
Town budget estimates for 1949 are similar to those Of 1948. We recommend a $200 increase for town charges to cover added fuel cost at the town hall, an additional to Offset the ever rising cost Of old age assistance, and $400 to pay for the white pine blister rust control work carried out in town by direction of the Governor and council. More about this last item later in the report. On the credit side, last year's for the town hall heating plant, and $200 for the American Legion post, do not appear again.
Town government. So that no misunderstanding may occur, we repeat again that under the new non-partisan ballot system Of electing town Officers, every candidate for a town office in 1949 must file his or her name with the town clerk mo-t later than Monday, February 28111, if their name is to appear on the printed ballot. The town clerk has the filing blanks. The cost is for any office with a salary.
