The leveling and odometer traversing were confined to square miles of upland. The methods of surveying tide-marsh were different. The transit work was mainly on the latter area. The areas in the first column are based on the results of a new measurement of the area of the State which is not quite completed. The total area given excludes. The large water areas of Delaware and Raritan bays.
