Excerpt from Annual Report of Adjutant-General of the State of North Carolina, for the Year 1886
The following new companies were organized: High Point Guards, Governor's Guards, Richland Ri?es, and Cape Fear Ri?es. The two last named companies were formed promptly upon the disbandment of the Haywood Grays and Smith Ville Guards, respectively, the former at Waynesville, the lat ter at Smithville.
