There has at last appeared an American work on the Principles of written by one who holds the chair' of sociology in one of the leading universities of the country. Heretofore, so far as I am aware, only two works (exclusive: of articles and reviews) containing the word sociology in. Their titles have been issued in America. One of these appeared thirteen years ago, and though even larger thani the present one, did not profess to deal with the whole sub-0 ject, but only with one of its most advanced phases. The' other work, emanating from the same institution as this one, treats of sociology from the standpoint of statistics.
