Days before graduating from college, Kevin Turner decides to bail out and leave everything behind. This includes running out on Laura Byers, his girlfriend of two years, on her way back from a summer in Denver. His dreams in tatters, Kevin heads for Kansas City, where he hopes to re-connect with his college friend Ellen Honeycutt. After a wild and profitable trip to Las Vegas, a sudden tragedy dashes Kevin's hopes for the future and plunges him into a crippling depression. Surprised and saddened to find Kevin has moved on without her, Laura returns home to Covington, and soon realizes that the town is too small for her now. After settling in, she soon becomes reluctantly involved in a drug trafficking scheme that turns out to be bigger-and more perilous--than she thought. And staying out of danger will not be easy.
