This is the opening volume of a series and, with the second volume, presents, the general principles and types of data on which the systematic anatomy of the dicotyledons is based. It shows how the discovery and organization of histological characters of vegetative organs can serve as an important element in the general taxonomic classification of dicotyledons.;After an historical introduction, this book deals mainly with the leaf, the herbaceous stems, and the twigs of woody plants.;The intention is that the first two volumes will serve as a textbook of systematic anatomy.
